“I grew up on The Prince of Egypt (1998) and The Mummy (1999), so I was obsessed with Egyptian mythology right away, like a lot of kids were, I’m sure. My Mom bought me that interactive Egyptology book that was a part of the ‘ologies’ series from the book fair at school and I couldn’t put it down. This ancient culture was just so fascinating to me. When I was an adult, my attention went back to the ancients when I became aware of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra and Marvel’s Moonknight. I was tickled to know that Marc Spector was actually a Jewish superhero who nonetheless relied on an Egyptian deity for his powers. Stan Lee was Jewish too, by the way. I like to think if I had a more Jewish childhood I would’ve played with Moonknight action figures sooner or at least had this character’s kickass journey in my life longer. Better late than never.”
