“Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, and Truman Capote are no longer characters or professors of the noire, detective story. They walk among us, unfortunately. In my lifetime, I’ve witnessed the rise of a genre of content often referred to as ‘true crime’…a non-fiction category of media characterized by personal accounts, historical investigation, and amateur forensics. Armed with microphones and a morbid sense of curiosity, everyday people take investigation into their own hands and plunge into the unexplained or unresolved cases of their respective communities. But my concern was always this…what happens when those who seek justice are not in a position to enforce justice? Do we become the same intrusive monsters we hunt? SUSPECTS was my answer to that question – a visual journey toward uncovered truths after the style of an evidence board one might find in a crime-enthusiast’s basement or someone who watches too many crime documentaries.”
