“Ever since I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, I couldn’t help but draw parallels between the organic texture of my CPAP machine and the biomechanics of H.R. Giger’s work, namely, his work on Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979), a frequent bedtime movie of mine. Having spent many a night unable to breathe, only to then be secured to this bizarre face apparatus, I felt the marriage of themes produced a clear outline for a conceptual scene: a portait of an exhausted victim whose nightmare takes the form of smothering, strangulation, and the bodily invasion of some alien entity.”
