Mixed-Media Instrument Artifact
Ink, spray paint, duct tape, vintage skeletal photos, and vintage USSR records on a vintage acoustic guitar.
Inspired by the censorship of Western music during the SAMIZDAT movement of Soviet Russia, which produced an entire underground industry of culture that was fiercely monitored by the State. In lieu of vinyl and other resources, music records featuring banned artists were instead printed on discarded x-ray sheets from local hospitals, known as “bone music” or “ribs” on the black market.
