“He would not flatter Neptune for his trident,
Or Jove for’s power to thunder. His heart’s his mouth:
What his breast forges, that his tongue must vent;”-William Shakespeare, Coriolanus (Act 3, Scene 1)
Quinten “Q” Avila is a mixed-media artist, photographer, and designer currently residing in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife and noted playwright, Alexandra Avila.
Originally from Los Angeles, California, he began his creative career in set-dressing and prop-design for film and television, eventually breaking into a broader landscape that included graphic design, illustration, promotional material, and multi-media composition. He was recently named one of Playbill’s national design finalists for Broadway’s ten year anniversary of HAMILTON. He is currently the production designer for Ladies Disdain Productions – a live theater outfit staging stories focused on femme-forward, queer, and overlooked narratives.
His work experiments with the application of texture and pattern while alluding to a wider, fictional narrative that animates his creations with a dynamic identity. His palette has no clear restriction, utilizing multiple elements which are intentionally layered to infer one, small piece of a vibrant, internal story. Utilizing everything from paint to LED lighting, Quinten’s visual arsenal produces a collection of work that illuminates the complex topography of his vision.
